Karisma Kapoor reflects on '90s film choices; says Hero No. 1 shifted career trajectory: “We went by instinct, energy and passion”

Karisma Kapoor, renowned for her iconic roles in 90s Bollywood, is all set for her next project, Netflix's Murder Mubarak. Reflecting on her illustrious career, she recently shared insights into the transformative landscape of 90s cinema. Amidst nostalgic reminiscence, she delved into the evolution of storytelling, emphasizing the industry's dynamic shifts over the decades.

In an interview with Film Companion, Karisma said, “At that time, we just worked. There was no calculation, there was nothing like that. We went by instinct and we just went by energy and passion. We actually worked like that. It was never calculated like ‘Oh, if I do this song, if I do this film, this will happen.’ There was nobody to tell us and advise us, no PR teams and stylists, there was nothing. We just were there on the set and made films happen.”

So when did things shift for her? She said, “So honestly, I think when Hero No. 1 happened, I think from that movie in that commercial space, things kind of changed. Then obviously, it went on to films like Raja Hindustani or Dil Toh Pagal Hai. Somewhere I feel from Hero No. 1, that’s just a personal.”

The trailer of Murder Mubarak was launched on March 5 amid the presence of media in Mumbai. Produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films, and directed by Homi Adajania, this murder mystery boasts an exceptional ensemble cast including Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Vijay Varma, Dimple Kapadia, Karisma Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Tisca Chopra, Suhail Nayyar and Aashim Gulati.

Murder Mubarak premieres on March 15 on Netflix. ALSO READ: Murder Mubarak Trailer Launch: Karisma Kapoor on being selective about her work: “I am lucky and thankful to be in a position where I can say yes or no”
