Bollywood actor John Abraham met India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, in New Delhi on Thursday, March 13, 2025, just a day before the theatrical release of his much-anticipated film, The Diplomat. The meeting, which sparked buzz across social media, highlighted a meaningful exchange between the actor and the diplomat.
A Meeting of Minds: Diplomacy, Football, and the Northeast Dr. S. Jaishankar took to X to share his thoughts on the interaction, posting, “An interesting conversation with @TheJohnAbraham on his new movie The Diplomat. As also on football, the North East and our respective worlds.” Accompanying the post were photos of the duo, including one where they appeared to be holding a football jersey with the number 9 and Jaishankar’s name emblazoned on it.
John Abraham reciprocated the sentiment, expressing his admiration for the minister. “Was a pleasure and honour to meet a man who I so intently follow,” he wrote on X. “We discussed diplomacy, the North East and football amongst many other things. Truly an honour Sir! @DrSJaishankar @NEUtdFC #TheDiplomat.”

The Diplomat: A Film Rooted in Real Events The timing of the meeting is no coincidence, as Abraham’s latest cinematic venture, The Diplomat, hits theatres today, March 14, 2025. Directed by Shivam Nair, the political thriller is inspired by real-life events and centres on the story of an Indian diplomat, JP Singh, portrayed by Abraham. The character is modelled after a real diplomat who played a pivotal role in rescuing an Indian woman, Uzma Ahmed, from Pakistan in 2017 after she was deceived into a forced marriage.
The film’s narrative delves into the complexities of international relations. Alongside Abraham, The Diplomat features an ensemble cast, including Sadia Khateeb as Uzma, with Sharib Hashmi, Kumud Mishra, and Revathy in key roles. Produced by T-Series, JA Entertainment, Wakaoo Films, and Fortune Pictures/Seeta Films, the movie promises a gripping tale of resilience and sacrifice.
