Bollywood industry has always had its share of big stars who, along with showing their charm on the screen, also ensure that a film succeeds at the box office, at least in the initial period. But it has also been said that because of this, they interfere with the making of the film. This practice is generally considered bad, but not in the books of Kabir Khan. The 83 filmmaker, instead, wants his actors to interfere in the making of his films. In an exclusive video chat with Bollywood Hungama, Kabir answered a question about actors interfering saying, “I have never understood when people say, ‘Oh that star interferes a lot.’ How can it be interfering? In fact, I would say that (if) my actor doesn’t interfere enough, I will be scared because then I would think that this person is not interested; he is braindead. I don’t want a creative person come onto my set and does only what I want him to do. I want him to turn around and say, ‘Can’t I do this?’ Sometimes when they say it, I didn’t even look at it that way.” Kabir added that he loves when not only his actors but even his assistant directors come up with ideas and suggestions. “Even among my assistant directors, there is no hierarchy,” he said. “My junior-most AD knows that they can come up to me and say, ‘Don’t you think it will be better like this?’ I might dismiss it in five seconds or it might spark off something in me. I think the worst thing a creative person can do is become arrogant about their creativity. You can’t close yourself up and be that arrogant about your creativity that there is no better way of looking at it.” Kabir’s last film was the highly acclaimed cricket drama 83, which starred Ranveer Singh in the role of the former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev.
