Himesh Reshammiya reveals Khiladi 786 cost Rs. 1 crore EXTRA as it was shot on film instead of digital: “We unnecessarily spent a crore more”

Himesh Reshammiya had a conversation with Komal Nahta and opened up about the rise of AI and the need to keep pace with changing times. Himesh said, “AI is changing the music industry. Today, there are 7 lakh singers. Tomorrow, there may be 50 lakh singers. So, there would be growth but it would come with its set of challenges; it’ll be about how you reinvent that will matter.”

When asked if he uses AI, Himesh replied, “Mere music producers ne kabhi kuch AI use kar liya, toh kar liya. However, AI helps us get references for scripts and for poster and costume design. It helps in creating motion posters as well. If people feel that AI won’t replace humans, they are wrong, according to me. But that would also benefit us.”

Himesh Reshammiya revealed, “I remember the song ‘Odh Li Chunariya’ was recorded on 2-inch (referring to 2-inch tape). Then when we started recording the song on analogue, we thought ki gaana ‘thin’ ho gaya. I spent 3 days during the mixing to correct the thinness. Jab aaj main who gaana sunta hoon, mujhe koi farak hi nahin lagta. Of course there’s a difference, but it's negligible. However, progress can’t be stopped. It’s inevitable.”

Himesh Reshammiya continued, “We shot Khiladi 786 (2012) on film. At the same time, a film was being made and it was shot on digital. It was a very big film at that time. We realized that we unnecessarily spent a crore more because Kodak pe shoot kiya tha. Humko lagta tha ki ‘Film hi right hai; digital wrong hain’. Today, everything is being shot on digital. Hence, progress will happen. Similarly, AI will also become a part of our lives. It's important that we use it for our betterment. I don’t think AI will be able to do justice to the emotions and emotional connection with the audience. For that, the human mind will be necessary.”
