Hema Malini opens up about life after Dharmendra’s passing; says, “I’m living with his memories”

Hema Malini, one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated actors, has spoken about life after the passing of her husband and veteran actor Dharmendra. The actor-politician, who has largely stayed away from films in recent years, also addressed questions about a possible return to acting and shared how she is coping with the loss of her longtime partner.

In a recent conversation with The Times of India, Hema Malini said she no longer thinks about returning to acting. The 77-year-old actor explained that she is currently focused on her responsibilities as a politician and her family. She said she is content with running her constituency, helping people and returning home to spend time with her children and grandchildren, who “need her.”

The conversation also touched upon the absence of Dharmendra, whose death has left a deep void in her life. Speaking about her husband, Hema said she is “living” with his memories and that those memories are enough for her to continue with life. She recalled how Dharmendra remained one of her biggest sources of strength and constantly encouraged her to pursue her passion for classical dance.

“Go ahead, don’t stop. Continue with your dance,” Dharmendra would often tell her, she recalled.

Hema also admitted that she has not been able to fully process his loss. According to the actor, the grief is something that may never completely disappear.

The couple’s relationship was frequently discussed and scrutinised publicly, but Hema said they never allowed outside opinions to dictate their lives. “We lived our lives according to us, not for people who wanted to criticise or judge us. We lived with true love. Right from the beginning, we knew we were meant for each other. Nobody could change that,” she said.

Addressing longstanding reports of differences with the Deol family, Hema dismissed the claims as “fabricated”. She maintained that they are a “united family” and urged people not to believe everything they see online, describing them as a “very happy family.”
