Filmmaker Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s action entertainer Kill, which is produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, got acclaim the world over and then impressed the audience in India as well. The film also gave the industry an action star in the form of Lakshya, who made a sensational debut. Kill is now all set to have its television premiere on Star Gold today at 8 pm. Lakshya had an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama to mark the occasion.
When asked how important are TV premieres in today’s times of OTT, he said, “I am not an expert in these things but I feel this has a value because till today even in tier 2 and 3 cities, people still watch satellite channels. I keep getting messages from people of UP and Punjab saying that they saw the film in theatres and now wish to watch on TV. It feels good because we have been watching these legendary channels like Star Gold since our childhood. We see Sooryavansham and other old films, so it feels special.”
He added, “OTT is a very quick access to cinema. You just press a button and you can watch anything at any time. But on satellite TV, you wait for films to come. Like, someone wanting to watch Kill will wait for March 20 at 8 pm. Usme ek maza hai. It’s an amazing feeling.”
Lakshya agreed that life hasn’t been the same for him after Kill. “You can totally say that my life after Kill has changed,” he said. “I was supposed to get launched by Dostana 2 but it ended up happening with Kill. Just today I was talking to a friend in London. I told him life would have been so different had I been launched with Dostana 2. I couldn’t have expected a bigger launch than Kill. What I have done with Kill and what the film has done to me, I cannot even ask for. I want to show my craft and be known for my work. And Kill was the right kind of film.”
Working with Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment is a big thing for Lakshya. He recalled an interesting incident when he saw a film produced by her years ago. “When I saw The Lunchbox for the first time, I sent her a DM on Instagram saying that I really want to work with her one day. But, of course, it was a random DM, so she didn’t see it. But the next thing I know is that I am doing my first film with Sikhya and Guneet Monga. So, universe has a very strange way of doing things. It’s amazing. She is an Oscar winner. They looked after me so much on the sets. They didn’t let me feel lack for anything.”
About working with Karan Johar’s banner, he said, “What do I say about Dharma yaar? It’s the biggest production house right now. Every actor has this wish of being a Dharma hero and do a Dharma film. That dream of mine was fulfilled in 2020 but then it took time. But der aaye, durust aaye. During that waiting phase, Apoorva (Mehta, CEO Dharma Productions), Karan and the whole Dharma team kept believing in me and kept the hopes high. I was able to do all this only because of them.”
The shoot of Kill was extremely difficult for the team. Apart from having to shoot in a cramped space of a set resembling a train, the team faced issues like injuries. Lakshya revealed that Nikhil Nagesh Bhat himself was suffering from severe backache.
“His back used to ache a lot,” said Lakshya. “So, he had kept a bed nearby and after every shot he used to lie down there. Such was his dedication. He was never giving up. And we were shooting during COVID. After every 2-3 weeks, someone used to get infected with COVID. So, we used to go in quarantine and then resume shooting. It was a very difficult film from that aspect as well. But he was so motivated and strong-headed on what we were doing as a leader, we were deriving such motivation from him.”
Kill also starred Raghav Juyal as the antagonist and Tanya Maniktala as Lakshya’s love interest.
