Kangana Ranaut opens up about rejecting her mother’s views on women’s duties: “I used to think that mom is saying such stupid things”

Actor Kangana Ranaut revealed that her mother once believed women should focus more on homemaking. In an interview with Brut India, she admitted that she used to consider her mother’s views naive.

Kangana stated, “My mom used to say, as a woman, you should be more invested in homemaking, from making achar (pickle) to ghee (clarified butter) to how to grow vegetables. I used to think that mom is saying such stupid things. What does it matter?”

She added, “I used to think that I was one of the youngest and richest women in the country. But today I am saying the same thing... I think that is the evolution of women. I read a quote that ‘You are not born as a woman, but you grow to be a woman’... Today, my mother is happy and she thinks I have matured and become wiser.”

Kangana Ranaut was last seen in Emergency, where she portrayed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Released in theatres on January 17, the film explored the 21-month Emergency imposed from 1975 to 1977 and its consequences. The cast also included Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik.

Kangana Ranaut has now opened a new restaurant, The Mountain Story, in Manali. In a 2013 interview, she had expressed her desire to start a café in the future. During a round table discussion with Deepika Padukone, when asked about her plans for the next 10 years, Kangana had mentioned her dream of owning a restaurant.
