Ranbir Kapoor made an intriguing revelation at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2024, where he announced the upcoming Raj Kapoor Film Festival. While discussing the importance of remembering cultural icons, the actor shared an anecdote about his now-wife, Alia Bhatt, leaving many surprised.
“I remember the first time I met Alia, she asked me, ‘Who’s Kishore Kumar?’ It’s just a circle of life; people are forgotten. It’s important we remember our roots,” Ranbir said during the event.
Ranbir’s remark sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some found it amusing, dubbing Ranbir as Alia’s “personal troll,” others defended the actress. Many pointed out that Alia was just nine years old at the time of their first meeting and could not be expected to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of Bollywood legends.
One user quipped, “He is her personal troll right there,” while another wrote, “He just dissed Alia.” However, a more supportive voice added, “Alia was only 9 years old when she asked that question. You can’t expect a child to know everything.”
Raj Kapoor Film Festival Announced
On a more serious note, Ranbir announced a significant tribute to his grandfather, Raj Kapoor. He revealed that the Raj Kapoor Film Festival will run from December 13 to December 15, showcasing restored versions of 10 iconic films by the legendary actor-filmmaker.
“We are going to organise the Raj Kapoor Film Festival all over India. It’s a great way to celebrate his legacy and preserve his contributions for future generations,” Ranbir said to a packed auditorium at the Kala Academy in Goa. Discussions on a Raj Kapoor Biopic Ranbir also shared his thoughts on making a biopic about Raj Kapoor, a project he has been considering for some time. Speaking candidly, he said, “I talk to a lot of people, including Sanjay Leela Bhansali, about how to make a biopic on Mr. Raj Kapoor. A biopic isn’t just about success; it’s about portraying someone’s life honestly—the lows, struggles, and relationships.”
