Alia Bhatt is one of the rare actresses to have a great track record. Her last flop was released more than 5 years ago, that is, before the pandemic – Kalank (2019). All was going well until Jigra came and affected her box office standing. Yet, the trade experts are clear that Alia Bhatt’s track record is completely safe.
Trade veteran Taran Adarsh remarked, “Whatever Jigra has collected is because of Alia Bhatt.”
Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar said, “I don’t think it affects her. It affects the people who made the film. It puts a question mark on their sensibility. People like her and moreover, the audience never punishes the actor. Otherwise, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 (2023) would not have collected Rs. 500 crores and Shah Rukh Khan would not have bounced back with 2 blockbusters. Similarly, if Alia comes with a great entertainer after 8-9 months, nobody can stop it from becoming a blockbuster.”
Amit Sharma, Managing Director, Miraj Entertainment Limited explained, “The film is good but there are times when filmmakers make experimental cinema. Sometimes, it works and sometimes, it doesn’t. But it doesn’t affect Alia Bhatt as an actress for sure.”
Kiritbhai T Vaghasia, who runs The Friday Cinema multiplex in Surat, is also sure that Alia Bhatt remains a huge draw, looking at the past instances. “All the earlier Alia Bhatt films like Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), Brahmastra (2022) and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) were super-hits in my theatre,” he said.
Taran Adarsh exulted, “I believe that she is very good in the film. She’s a very fine actor. But the content has to deliver. What can an actor do after a point?”
He continued, “Alia is not dependent on this film. There’s Alpha with Yash Raj and she also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love And War with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in her kitty. I am sure she’ll have other projects too.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan believed that Jigra’s lifetime collections will be around Rs. 25 crores and disagreed with the others saying, “It does affect when a solo lead film of an actor doesn’t do well.”
But he assured that the immense trolling on social media for Alia is irrelevant. “Social media negativity doesn’t affect at all,” he said. “Many of the tweets are also perhaps by bots. Some of those tweeting are fokat and won’t even have the ‘jigra’ to spend money to watch the film! Many of them are anonymous – nameless and faceless. Hence, one should never let the so-called trolling affect your personal life. There’s a saying, ‘What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’. Similarly, what happens on social media should remain on social media!”
Taran Adarsh signed off by saying, “Jigra is like a speed breaker for Alia Bhatt but the journey ahead will continue to be smooth.”
