Bhumi Pednekar is gearing up for her first release of the year, a crime drama, Bhakshak, featuring her as Vaishali Singh, a determined journalist on a mission to expose a heinous crime. Inspired by true events, the film promises to captivate audiences with a tale of bravery and the quest for justice. Allegedly inspired by the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, the film tackles the sexual molestation of young girls and women. Bhumi Pednekar feels that taking it on the OTT platform was the right call to make.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Bhumi Pednekar said that the film needs to reach the right audience. “This is a very sensitive film, this film needs to be protected. This film needs to reach the right people, that will make enough noise about the film so that there is genuinely a change,” she said.
Director Pulkit admits that the film is beyond the box office competition. “This film can’t be judged on the box office numbers. So, Netflix is the best thing that happened to it,” he added.
Directed by Pulkit and produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma, Bhakshak features a powerful ensemble including Sanjay Mishra, Aditya Srivastava and Sai Tamhankar, along with Bhumi Pednekar. The film follows the life of a fearless investigative journalist who uncovers shocking secrets hidden within a girls’ shelter home. The film arrives on Netflix on February 9, 2024.
