Karan Johar pens emotional note on New Year’s Eve for best friend and Dharma Productions’ CEO Apoorva Mehta for his contribution towards their banner

Karan Johar has been successful in taking his home production house Dharma Productions to newer heights ever since he had to take on the responsibility following his father and well-known producer Yash Johar’s death in 2004. The filmmaker has now given a major credit for Dharma’s success to their banner’s CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Apoorva Mehta in an emotional post on Instagram.

By sharing his picture with Apoorva, Karan said that he came to his rescue to serve the banner despite being settled in the UK with his family. “When my father passed away in 2004… he left a void that perhaps can never be filled … on an emotional impulse I called my best friend @apoorva1972 who was based in the UK and very settled with his wife Bijal… I said “I need you … I have no family to help me build my father’s dream … Dharma productions” without even a pause he said “I will be there” and just like that overnight Bijal and him changed their settled life to walk into an unknown territory and as we enter 2024 I want to take this moment to express my deepest love and gratitude to both of them for being emotional and professional pillars to me in my most trying and challenging times!”

Rajkumar Hirani initially didn’t want to cast Vicky Kaushal in Dunki; says, “Vicky made the biggest difference to the film”

Rajkumar Hirani returned to the direction scene with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dunki. The filmmaker recently talked about the film in detail, and why he cast Vicky Kaushal in a special role.

In a recent conversation with NDTV, Rajkumar Hirani said, “As we were chatting, the topic of casting came up. When he asked about the ideal boy for the role of Sukhi, I mentioned, ‘A boy like Vicky would be perfect’. However, I made it clear that I wouldn’t offer him the role because it’s a small role. Now he’s doing lead roles, so I wouldn’t offer it to him. Sham (Vicky’s father and action director Sham Kaushal) didn’t say anything.”

“That night, I got a call from Vicky, and he said, ‘How could you tell dad that you can’t offer the role to me?’ He met me the very next day, and it was kind of him to take on that role. It also showed what a good actor can do with a role like that, and Vicky made the biggest difference to the film,” he added.

Befor Dunki, Vicky Kaushal was a part of Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor.

Meanwhile, Dunki has collected Rs. 156.27 crores so far.  ALSO READ: Rajkumar Hirani breaks silence on Munna Bhai 3: “I have 5 half-written scripts”

Javed Akhtar reveals that he wrote the evergreen song 'Tumko Dekha Toh Yeh Khayal Aaya' in 9 minutes, that too when he was 9 pegs down

A strong crowd of more than 2000 people had a great time attending the show 'Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon'. Presented by Saregama, it featured Javed Akhtar narrating never-before-heard stories behind some of the classic songs he wrote. This was followed by Meiyang Chang and Jahnvi Shrimankar singing those songs. At the very beginning of the show, the legendary songwriter brought the house as he revealed the funny episode of writing the evergreen song 'Tumko Dekha Toh Yeh Khayal Aaya' from Saath Saath (1982).

Javed Akhtar started writing lyrics after Yash Chopra coaxed him to do so for his film Silsila (1981). He said, “A film takes a lot of time to be made. When it releases after 1 ½ years, tab log bolte hai ‘Bahut acche dialogue likhe hai aapne’. Matlab dedh saal lag jaata hai taarif sunne mein! With song lyrics, you write the song, it’ll be recorded in 2 days and the same evening, you’ll get to hear praises! Hence, I started to enjoy writing lyrics. Yeh aasaan bhi hai aur isme taareef zyada hai!”

He then said how he came on board for Saath Saath saying, “Yash Chopra’s fourth assistant, Raman Kumar, a very talented man, approached me. He told me that he is making a small film and doesn’t have a huge budget. He told me ‘Main aapse free mein likhwana chahta hoon’!”

Javed Akhtar, in his trademark style, quipped, “Now, there could be two reasons why I wrote the songs for free. One is that I am kind-hearted and I felt that gareeb ki madat karna mera kartavya hai. The other reason could be that I was enjoying songwriting. Which reason you feel is correct, uspe aap tick mark kar dijiye!”

He continued, “You might be a very good person but when you do work for free, you take time! Those days, I used to drink extensively, that too every night. I had to deliver just one song. Raman used to come home every night and tell me, ‘Sir, woh ek gaana reh gaya tha’. I would reply, ‘Haan, bilkul’. Because of me, his liver also got affected!”

Javed Akhtar added, “Every night, I would tell him, ‘Kal tumhara gaana likhte hai’. The scenario would repeat every night. He had to catch a train. Hence, he used to check his watch (to ensure he doesn’t miss the last local train).”

The Padma Bhushan awardee continued to raise laughs as he stated, “One night, he told me, ‘Aaj toh der ho gayi. Kal pakka likh dena aap’. I was 8-9 pegs down and aise mein, confidence bada aa jaata hai! I told him ‘Abhi kar dete hai’. I asked him for pen and paper. He was checking his watch, to catch the train. Hence, I know how much time I took to write the song.”

Javed Akhtar amazed the crowd as he revealed, “Yeh gaana sirf 9 minute mein likha tha. That song ('Tumko Dekha Toh Yeh Khayal Aaya') became a hit and continues to be popular even today.” As expected, the audience couldn’t stop clapping.

Saath Saath starred Farooq Shaikh and Deepti Naval. Incidentally, it was edited by none other than David Dhawan.

Kareena Kapoor Khan reveals Taimur Ali Khan asks questions about being photographed by paparazzi: “He keeps asking me that, ‘Am I VIP?’”

Kareena Kapoor Khan is enjoying a family vacation in Switzerland to ring in the New Year. The family looks forward to welcoming the New Year after their rejuvenating getaway. Amid the holiday season, she shared insights into her son Taimur Ali Khan's feelings about always being in the spotlight. The actress revealed that Taimur, her elder son, has mixed emotions about constantly being photographed.

In a recent conversation with Forbes India, Kareena talked about her son Taimur’s reaction to the paparazzi around him and said, “I think now, he is obviously used to it. But it’s difficult because… I mean if you kind of tell him that ‘hide your face, don’t do this, don’t do that’, I think that would be too much. So, in a way, we have tried to explain directly to him that they are taking your pictures because your parents are actors, your parents are famous. You are not.”

Kareena, who also has a younger son Jeh Ali Khan, who also gets photographed by paparazzi, revealed that her older son Taimur has asked questions about being photographed by the paparazzi. She said, “So, he keeps asking me that, ‘Am I VIP?’ and I am like ‘No, you are not. May be your parents are… I don’t know. But you are not, you are nothing’. So he is like growing with this to understand that ‘my parents are this. I don’t know why they keep clicking me. I need to do something with my life’. So we are being very honest with him.”

On the work front, Kareena Kapoor Khan forayed into the digital space earlier this year with Jaane Jaan, helmed by Sujoy Ghosh. She will next star in The Buckingham Murders. The highs and lows of Rajesh Khanna: Birth Anniversary Special

There are many stories about Rajesh Khanna, some true, others not. One of the tragically true ones is about how he made Gulzar wait the entire night for a story narration. The poet, who sleeps at 9 pm, waited with mounting impatience for the superstar to emerge from the inner chambers from his castle where Gulzar Saab could hear sounds of inebriated merriment. He finally left at 2 am to never return again. The story above epitomizes the downfall of Indian cinema’s biggest superstar, whose 81st birth anniversary took place on December 29.

Rajesh Khanna's golden period lasted exactly three years. But the country never known a bigger star. Between 1969 and 1971, Rajesh Khanna was the undisputed king of the world. And he never let anyone forget it. As hit after hit flowed out of his repertoire, Khanna climbed to a position where all his contemporaries began to feel seriously left out in the rat race. Jeetendra, who was a close friend of Khann,a openly though good naturedly grumbled about Khanna cornering all the plum projects that were available for the Bollywood leading man in the closing year of the 1960s and the opening years of the 1970s.

When Rajesh Khanna ruled, the competition simply vanished. Khanna’s track record during that period was beyond phenomenal. It was staggering! Beginning with Shakti Samanta's Aradhana which came and blew open the box office in 1969, the hits simply flew out like there was no tomorrow. Aradhana was quickly followed by Narendra Bedi's Bandhan, B R Chopra's Ittefaq, Raj Khosla's Do Raaste, Shakti Samanta's Kati Patang, Manmohan Desai's Sachcha Jhutha, Dulal Guha's Dushman and J Om Prakash's Aan Milo Sajna, all within a span of three years.

No star in the history of Indian cinema had so many hits flowing out so fast and furiously. With Chinappa Devar's Haathi Mere Saathi (arguably the biggest hit of his career), Khanna's career peaked. The Khanna frenzy touched the sky. Kids loved their haathi uncle as much their grandmothers adored Anand Babu who hated tears.

After his death, Mumtaz, with whom Khanna did a truckload of hits from Do Raaste in 1969 to Prem Kahani in 1975, recalled, “My jodi with Rajesh Khanna was lucky. We never suffered a flop. Our last film together, Aaina, didn’t click but it was just a guest appearance for him. Do Raaste, our first film together was a big hit. The songs did it. ‘Bindiya chamkegi’ and ‘Chhup gaye saare nazaare’ became very popular. We did a whole lot of films after that right until I got married and quit the industry. That allowed me the chance to interact with him fairly closely. Shaadi mein jaise saare milaaye jaate hain, hum donon ki jodi ke sitaare milte the. Our onscreen pair seemed blessed by divinity.”

Sharmila Tagore’ with whom Khanna did the iconic Aradhana and Amar Prem, recalled, “I was first-hand witness to the hysteria he had caused. When we did our first film, Aradhana together, I had no idea what was to unfold. Suddenly, it got impossible to walk from my makeup room to the set without getting mobbed. The entire area used to be crammed with girls who’d fall all over him. I hadn’t, and haven’t witnessed anything like it. Did he change after the success? Of course he did. He’d arrive late on set. And still, he didn’t manage to beat Shatrughan Sinha and Sanjeev Kumar when it came to trooping in late. Although we had a great working relationship, and the films we did together were a success, we’d constantly argue about one thing. Both, Kaka and I liked to put forward the same profile — the left side of the face — before the camera. The cinematographers were driven up the wall trying to accommodate us both.”

Zeenat Aman added, “Kakajee was already a big star when we did our first film, Ajnabee together. It was directed by Shakti Samanta, with whom he had worked on huge hits like Aradhana. So, I was this outsider, the newcomer. But not for a minute did he make me feel that. He was reserved, yes. But so was I. We had some fun times together. We shot a song atop a train (‘Hum dono do premi’) long before Shah Rukh’s ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’. Kakajee was so good with songs and romance. After Ajnabee, we did four films together, and got to know each other during Aashiq Hoon Baharon Ka, Jaanwar and Jaana: Let’s Fall In Love. In Jaana…, there was this bit that I considered a high-point. He sang a medley of all his evergreen romantic hits for me. By the time we did our last film together, he had turned far more introspective. He confided in me about how he wanted to create a museum of his memorabilia. We didn’t end up keeping in touch.”

Recalled Asha Parekh, “We first worked together in an experimental film Baharon Ke Sapne. He was not a star then. But we all could see that special spark in him. By the time we did our second film, Kati Patang, everything had changed. He was a superstar; the kind Indian cinema hasn’t witnessed. Girls would run after him, tear his clothes, kiss his car, stand outside his bungalow for a darshan for hours. I thought it was fairly entertaining. I remember this time we were shooting the song, ‘Jis gali mein tera ghar na ho balma’ for Kati Patang in Nainital by a lake, and we had to stop because of the hordes that had gathered to see him. By the time we did Aan Milo Sajna, success had brought him confidence. He talked more, was far more expressive and fun. The song, ‘Achcha to hum chalte hain’ in Aan Milo Sajna, was again hell to shoot because we wanted to capture the sunset, and light was playing hide and-seek. But Kaka was patient. He loved shooting songs.”

Then, it all ended. Suddenly the downslide started. In 1972, six of Rajesh Khanna's prestigious projects bombed one after another. Epitaphs for his career were written, and not unhappily. Though Khanna bounced back with some notable hits in 1974 (Aap Ki Kasam, Premnagar and Roti) the best was behind the nation's beloved Kakajee.

Stories of Khanna's arrogance and high-handedness had begun to gain credence. Manmohan Desai, a close friend of Khanna after two blockbusters Sachcha Jhutha and Roti switched to Amitabh Bachchan with Amar Akbar Anthony, and there was no looking back to Khanna. Gulzar wanted to cast Khanna in a film. He was made to wait in the living room of Khanna’s iconic bungalow Ashirwaad all evening while the star drank and whooped it up with his friends/chamchas inside and then told to come another day.

There were stories of how the superstar insisted on setting up projects entirely on his own terms. The music had to be by R.D. Burman and none other, although the combo had run out of steam. By the time Khanna and RD worked together in Alag Alag in 1985, which was directed by the Khanna's loyalist Shakti Samanta for Khanna to romance his real-life love-interest Tina Munim, the creative juices had run dry. The film came after nearly a year of ‘together’ interviews where the fast-fading star and the pretty starlet spoke about everything they shared, including a lungi and toothbrush.

Alag Alag flopped, and so did all the other films that Khanna did with Ms Munim excluding Sawan Kumar's Sautan, the surprise success of 1983, the year when Khanna had a cloudburst of temporary success with Agar Tum Na Hote, Souten and most notably Avtaar.

The trouble with Rajesh Khanna's career was excessive subjectivity. He not only mixed business with pleasure, he even made sure that the business of pleasure was brought home to his famous bungalow Aashirwad where every evening, the Khanna durbar of sycophants and loyalists gathered for drinks and gupshup.

Anju Mahendroo, Khanna's steady girlfriend of seven years and a practical woman, hated the yes-men who crowded Rajesh Khanna's life and allowed him no room to grow. She wanted all the fakes and flatterers to go. When they wouldn't be shown the door, Anju quit the relationship.

Said one of Rajesh Khanna's heroines, “When Anju left, Kaka he hurled downhill at a rapid pace paving the way for Amitabh Bachchan to become the next superstar. If Kaka had not allowed the super-success of a spate of films in 1969-72 to blind his better judgment, he would have continued as the reigning superstar for at least another decade and the Bachchan factor may not have happened when it did.”

Most of Rajesh Khanna's well-wishers felt his overnight marriage to Dimple Kapadia in 1973 was a disastrous mistake for both of them.

Said a friend of the actor, “Dimple was half (of) Kaka's age. She was completely besotted by him. Kaka was flattered to be getting so much attention from Raj Kapoor's heroine. He always had a fascination for all the things that Raj Saab discovered. When on the spur of the moment he proposed to Dimple, she quickly accepted. Kaka made her throw the ring that was gifted to her by Rishi Kapoor into the sea to prove her loyalty to him. Drama was always a constant in the superstar's life.”

The stormy marriage to Dimple lasted for 5-6 years. When she walked out with their two daughters to pursue a career, Rajesh Khanna was left in their bungalow Aashirwad with a huge persecution complex and little else to keep him company.

Said a male co-star, “Kaka loved to play the martyr both in his real life and reel. He would justify his transgressions as husband and family man by arguing that he was misunderstood. On screen, he repeatedly revealed a death-wish. It's no coincidence that his character died in film after film: Aradhana, Safar, Anand, Andaz, Namak Haraam. He saw himself as a combination of Guru Dutt and Devdas and his roles repeatedly reflected this obsession.”

The story goes that during the shooting of Namak Haraam, Hrishikesh Mukherjee was not sure which of the two heroes would finally die. It could have been either Khanna or the Big B. But Khanna insisted on getting the privilege. On the day that the director was supposed to shoot the death scene, Khanna placed a garlanded picture of himself on the wall.

Getting his way became a matter of habit for Khanna. In his head he remained a superstar, albeit in exile, even when the number of guests at Aashirwad dwindled to nothing. In their defence it must be said Khanna's friends were not treated well.

Shakti Samanta, who cast Khanna in almost all his films between 1969 and 1985, was persuaded to cast Rajesh Khanna's sister-in-law Simple Kapadia opposite Khanna in the otherwise-watchable Anurodh. The film bombed. Aradhana not only gave the industry one of its most beloved star pairs (Rajesh-Sharmila), it also started a durable friendship between Khanna and the film's director. Shakti Samanta, music composer R D Burman and Rajesh Khanna became an inseparable trio of friends.

But the 'camp' culture, which the slipping superstars patented, also isolated him from a major chunk of talent in the industry. Yash Chopra was a very close friend of Khanna from the time the two worked together in Ittefaq in 1969. Naturally, when Yash Chopra broke away from his brother B R Chopra to direct and produce Daag in 1973, he cast Khanna in what turned out to be one of the star's bigger and final hits.

But after that, the cracks began to show in the Yash Chopra-Rajesh Khanna friendship. Not too many people know Khanna was to play the lead in Deewaar. He demanded some changes in Salim-Javed's script. He was replaced by the Big B.

Career blunders multiplied. In 1979, Khanna launched his ambitious epic production Majnoon to be directed by the Pakeezah director Kamal Amrohi. The project never went beyond the grand mahurat. A few years later, the fading superstar ate back his own words about never working with his wife and invited Dimple to co-star with him in Jai Shiv Shankar (the title tried desperately to evoke the magic of a song that Khanna lip-synched to glory). That project too was aborted. By this time, the Khanna phenomenon survived solely on nostalgia.

By the time the 1970s ended the show was over for Rajesh Khanna. But while the superstardom lasted, it remained unique in its impact. Churning out a plethora of hits, he never shied away from experimenting with characters. Early in his superstardom, Khanna played a killer on the run in Ittefaq. In Amar Prem, he happily took a backseat to Sharmila Tagore and child artiste Master Bobby. In Anand, considered his best performance, Khanna had no leading lady. In Basu Bhattacharya's Aavishkar, the superstar enacted eerily real scenes from a troubled marriage. In Red Rose, he played psychotic killer. In Bawarchi, he donned baggy half-trousers to play cook to a dysfunctional perpetually-grumbling family.

Interestingly, Jaya Bhaduri, who played the lead in Bawarchi, was not cast opposite Rajesh Khanna. The two never worked together. And after a guest appearance in Andaz, neither was Khanna cast with the other reigning queen of the 1970s Hema Malini until Premnagar when Khanna's career was waning and it was no longer enough to sell a film on his name.

What finally and actually finished off Rajesh Khanna's superstardom was the games he played. He happily apportioned plum roles between his two favourite heroines Sharmila Tagore and Mumtaz and then in an interview he spoke slyly about how one of them would sulk when he spent time with the other. Understandably, the two ladies didn't take too kindly to this sort of true confession. They kept a distance from him thereafter. So did most of those who loved Rajesh Khanna, including his family and fans who returned just in time for the final chapter in the phenomenon’s life story.

EXCLUSIVE: Prithviraj Sukumaran talks about Salaar’s success; also says, “I have neither watched Dunki nor Salaar! I am a big fan of Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan sir. I am very happy that both the films are doing well”

Prithviraj Sukumaran rocked the show with his performance of Varda in Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire. His bonding with Prabhas was one of the strengths of the film and the dashing, talented actor spoke about the film’s success and a lot more in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama.

How has been the feedback for Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire? You must be flooded with messages and DMs! (Smiles). I am. I am elated with how Salaar has been received. It’s heartening that the film has resonated equally well with people all over the country. That’s what our intention was. Full credit goes to Hombale Films, Prashanth Neel, Prabhas and the whole team. I have had the privilege of enjoying lots of successes and failures in cinema. But this feels special because I am getting calls and messages from people from different industries. Each one of them spoke to me as if they had seen a film from their own industry!

Salaar must have been your biggest release in terms of reach… Indeed. It was also the biggest release in terms of scale and as you said, how widely it was distributed and the magnitude of the release. It’s a dream for any artist for their work to be showcased and celebrated in such a fashion. I hope this is the beginning of a lot of new good things to come.

How are the team of Hombale Films, Prashanth Neel Prabhas reacting? Are they happy with the feedback? Oh yes. I have worked very closely with Hombale Films. I am also directing a film for them. And yes, Prabhas and others are very happy with the reaction. Prashanth is the kind of guy who is unaware of what the film has done! Even during KGF, he pretty much behaved the same way. But I am sure he’s also very happy. To see all our hard work and efforts bore fruit is truly gratifying.

Did you get a chance to see Salaar in theatres? I am in Kerala right now. It’s not easy for me to go and watch the film in theatres here.

I request you to come to Mumbai and experience the madness in Gaiety-Galaxy. Maybe, you can do so for Salaar’s sequel… I agree. Salaar is a film that you have to watch with a big crowd. I’d love to do that. Going by how things are and assuming that Salaar is going to run with packed houses for a few weeks more, I am hoping I get a chance to see the film in a sold-out show.

Your character Varda doesn’t do any action for most part of the film, leaving many to assume that he’ll not beat up baddies. But in the climax, he goes all out. Was it intentional to keep the best for the last? Prashanth had this deliberate design in mind to keep giving hints about how deep the bond between Varda and Deva is. So finally when they join hands, you know how deadly a force they can be collectively. Let’s just say that the climax portion of Salaar is just a hint of what is going to come in part 2.

At times, scenes are written well on paper but they don’t translate the same way on celluloid. But the ‘Yaa Yaa’ scene went to another level on celluloid. Also, the way you kept your eyes shut added to the effect… When Prashanth narrates the film to you, he also tells you his vision. Prashanth had a clear vision for that fight sequence. Like I am closing my eyes while everyone else opens when Deva walks ahead. It’s like, ‘Everyone else will want to see what is going to happen. You (Varda) are the only ones who knows what is going to happen and is thinking, I don’t want to see it’. He got this aspect so well in his writing and execution. Plus, he’s also a spectacular technician. He has this amazing sense of style which he neatly incorporates into the drama. Prashanth’s imagination is boundless.

On a lighter note, it is often joked that Prashanth Neel doesn’t like lights as the visual tone of the film is quite dark. Your thoughts? (Laughs) Som Prashant doesn’t like too many colours and prefers monochrome, high contrast and shadows. I understand that a lot of people are saying that ‘Salaar looks a lot similar to KGF’ in terms of styling and cinematography. But I know for a fact that Prashanth always wanted a particular look in Salaar. And Salaar was written before KGF. He preferred the black dust and the texture on the clothes to create a world where probably the most colourful thing is the blood! He always had that in his mind. Nevertheless, the styling, the colour tone, the cinematography, the contrast ratio and the play between shadow and light contribute a lot to what the visuals of Khansaar make you feel. The styling is very much part of the writing. Hats off to Prashanth for imagining how the world would look like. It’s entirely fictional and created in his mind. It’s akin to J R R Tolkien creating the whole world of The Lord Of The Rings. He imagined what the place would be, what the politics of the place would be, how that place is ruled, the hierarchy, dynamics between players etc. A whole lot of effort has gone into conceiving the world. Part of that effort is also the style and the feel; like how do you feel when you look at the screen and see Khansaar? Prashanth, more than anyone else, would have known that comparisons are bound to happen. He still chose to go with this styling for Salaar.

— Hombale Films (@hombalefilms) December 27, 2023

Which was the most difficult scene for you? The entire climax action sequence was challenging. We were shooting in December when Hyderabad can get quite cold during the night. You have to wear a woollen jacket. And Prabhas and I were drenched in blood. The fake blood, which we use in films, feels very cold. At 1 or 2 am, Prabhas and I would sit in front of the fire. And it was not just for one night. The shoot took place for many nights. Now that you have seen the film, you know that the people whom we fight against have to behave in a particular way for some reason. They couldn’t be very exact with their movements. They had to act like they were completely out of control. That made it quite challenging.

Did you get the chance to see Dunki? I have neither watched Dunki nor Salaar! I have been shooting continuously. I am really looking forward to watching both movies. I am a big fan of Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan sir. I am very happy that both the films are doing well.

Kriti Sanon gives us a lesson in colour blocking with her vibrant saree by Manish Malhotra

The Umang showcase that celebrates Mumbai police and their families heralds the event season in our part of the world. The Umang 2023 Mumbai Police Show was no different. Performances were electrifying and the fashion quotient was right on par with it. Ethnic wear was the unofficial dress code of the night with sarees stealing the top spot. Kriti Sanon gave the fun desi pick her own stylish spin.

Kriti Sanon is an amazing style icon. Every attire looks excellent on her due to her petite frame and smouldering features. She may wear Western clothing with style, but nothing compares to the grace and charm that an Indian persona can convey. The actress most recently caused a stir among fans when she opted to go out in a Manish Malhotra saree designed for the time of year. It had red, black, and pink horizontal panels. The other colours blended together to make a statement, with red serving as the ideal border colour. Kriti didn't hesitate to incorporate further colour into the ensemble by donning earrings that had a subtle silver hue. The diva's makeup, which included glossy lips, a dewy base, kohl-rimmed eyes, black eyeshadow, and a black manicure, was a true work of art. She wore her hair loose in curls.

On the work front, Kriti Sanon was last seen in Ganpath alongside Tiger Shroff. She will now star in Rajesh Krishnan’s upcoming comedy-drama The Crew alongside Kareena Kapoor and Tabu. Kriti also has Do Patti and an untitled film with Shahid Kapoor in pipeline.

Jacqueline Fernandez appears absolutely enchanting in a dazzling, sequined blue outfit, exuding a dreamlike aura

You are aware of the excitement that might arise in December. It's the season for joyful excursions, get-togethers, family get-togethers, and dinner parties, aside from holidays. Isn't there just a tonne of activity happening? This fashion statement by Jacqueline Fernandez is perfect if you want to maintain your look stylish and current. For good reason, Jaqueline Fernandez is a style icon among women. Her daring wardrobe experimentation, chic style selections, and easy-going charm soon make her the country's sweetheart.

Jacqueliene Fernandez's Christmas ensemble is all blue—but in the trendiest way possible. At the Moon Light Music Festival in Dubai, the actress stepped it up with a gorgeous, glittery appearance. Though we're sure that many were enthralled with her elegant dance films, fashionistas' attention was focused on the diva's sequined blue-coloured attire. Jacqueliene Fernandez looked stunning for the glittering occasion in a bodycon dress with a square neckline and a plunging cut that was covered in sequins. The skin-colored sleeves featured sheer embroidery, and the cuffs were embellished with charming blue tassels. The actress accessorised her attire with fishnet stockings that were completely nude. Not only is her wardrobe stunning, but we also adore her opulent cosmetics style. She went with a dewy base and added highlighter and blush to give herself a rosy-shiny look. But inside was a work of art—a cut-crease eyeshadow with silver sparkle. Her captivating appearance was completed with a glossy nude lip hue, mascara-filled lashes, and a kohl-eyeliner combination.

On the work front, she will be next seen in Fateh alongside Sonu Sood. She also has Crakk with Vidyut Jammwal and Arjun Rampal in her lineup. She was last seen in Rohit Shetty's Cirkus, alongside Ranveer Singh.

Some audiences may recall that when this project was announced, it was said that Parineeti Chopra has been roped in for the film, so much so that the actress had too shared her excitement of working with the Kabir Singh filmmaker. However, later on it was revealed that Rashmika Mandanna has been roped in as the leading lady for the role of Geetanjali Iyengar.

Kuch kuch characters kuch kuch logo ko set nahi hota hai (some characters are such that it doesn’t set right with certain people)."

Sandeep also mentioned about how he wanted her to play Preeti in Kabir Singh. He continued, "Main kabhi audition main believe nahi karta (I don’t believe in auditions). I go by my instinct only. Sandeep maintained that one day he will definitely work with Parineeti Chopra since he admires her work and acting chops. He opened up about how she reacted when Rashmika Mandanna took over, Vanga added, "That’s long due. I always wanted to work with her. I told her and she also knows that. I told her, ‘Sorry, nothing is bigger than the film. So, I’m taking this decision and going ahead with another artist.’ She felt bad, but she understood why I was saying that.”

Animal stars Rashmika Mandanna as Geetanjali, who essays the role of Ranvijay’s wife and mother of his two children.

30 Years of Darr: Here’s how Hrithik Roshan played an important part in providing the apt title to the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer

Darr (1993), an important film in Indian cinema, completed 30 glorious years on December 24. It starred Shah Rukh Khan in the breakthrough role of an obsessive stalker. The way he performed the part and his ‘K-K-K-Kiran’ dialogue made him a force to reckon with. Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol also starred in this musical drama, which was produced and directed by Yash Chopra. A lot has been said about the film’s casting, issues that cropped up between Shah Rukh and Sunny etc. However, many are not aware of Hrithik Roshan’s contribution to Darr. On the 30th anniversary of this movie, we will throw light on this lesser-known aspect.

Uday Chopra, who was an assistant to Yash Chopra in Darr, revealed in an old video to his father that he and Hrithik Roshan came across a Hollywood thriller, Dead Calm (1989). They recommended it to Aditya Chopra. He loved it so much that it germinated into Darr. Uday also stated in the video that Darr was a title that Hrithik Roshan had used for what seemed to be a low-budget short film. Aditya found the title apt and that’s how the classic film got the title.

Uday Chopra said, “There’s a little-known fact about Darr and the way it started. Hrithik and I were watching a movie once, a very lesser-known film, called Dead Calm. We saw a video of that film and we decided to make Adi see it, just to show him a very good film.”

Uday continued, “Adi saw that film and he loved it instantly. That is how the inspiration for Darr came out. In fact, Darr was the title that Hrithik had kept for a movie which he had actually made. It was an amateur movie which he had shot. So, it was Hrithik’s title. When Adi decided to make this film, he told Hrirthik ‘I am going to use this title because it suits the film very well’.” Yash Chopra, meanwhile, seems surprised as he didn’t know about the trivia of his own film at all.

Story behind Yash Chopra's Darr pic.twitter.com/YMabeDocqi — Manish (@rmanish1) January 8, 2023

Darr is a story of an obsessive lover who goes crazy when the girl he passionately loves gets engaged to a Navy officer. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan’s legendary performance and thrilling moments, Darr is also memorable for its evergreen soundtrack. Dead Calm, meanwhile, stars Sam Neill, Nicole Kidman and Billy Zane. It is the story of a couple grieving the death of their son when they come across a stranger who has abandoned a sinking ship. He kidnaps the wife, leading to madness.

As Darr completes 30 years today, Juhi Chawla, who became the biggest national crush as Kiran with the film, reveals the film to be one of the most important films that she has ever done in her career! The Yash Chopra directorial also featured Sunny Deol as the leading man and Shah Rukh Khan as the antagonist with Anupam Kher, Tanvi Azmi, among others playing pivotal roles.

Speaking about it, Juhi said, “Darr is one of the highlights of my career. One of the most important films I have done. Before Darr, I worked with Yash Chopra ji in Chandni, and it was just a tiny bit. At that time, I was very new but still he cast me opposite Vinod Khanna ji and I had that little guest appearance. That was the first time I faced the camera with Yash ji directing me, which was just two and half days of work.”

She added, “After that I worked in Pam Chopra ji's production which was also a YRF film – Aaina. And I have said this before, Aaina was the first time where I was called to Honey ji’s house, who sat me down and went through the entire script with me. The second time that I ever heard a script again was when Yash ji sat me down in the Gadda room at their home. I was just amazed as I was an upcoming artist, who was still finding her feet and here was this great director whose movies I had watched as a child, and then when I became an actress, I was sitting in front of him, while he nicely took me through the whole film.”

She further continued, “Also, at that time, it was very rare that the Directors or Producers wrote their whole script before going into shooting. However, with Yash ji, both the films that I did whether it was Aaina or Darr they narrated the whole script to me! It was wonderful. I do have wonderful memories of working with Yash ji. I was very young at that time and was in awe of Yash ji. It was such a big moment for me to be a Yash Chopra ji’s heroine, and that I would be directed by him. I had grown up watching Silsila, and some other movie but I never imagined that I would be in front of the camera and that the legendary Yash Chopra would be directing me!”

Juhi says she was thrilled to hear that Shah Rukh Khan would be playing the anti-hero in Darr! She explained, “When I heard that Yash ji was going to cast Aamir for the role that Shah Rukh did, I was so happy, because you know I’ve worked with Aamir in our initial films and with him I’m so comfortable. Then I heard that Aamir is not doing it, then I think it went to Ajay Devgn and some other young heroes but they wouldn’t do it, then finally it was Shah Rukh. But I can't tell you how special it was!”

Juhi added, “At that time, I was this wide-eyed young girl who was going through life and going through the whole experience... I didn't know what I was really doing or where I was heading. Just experiencing these big highs and being overwhelmed with it, also being nervous but then also finding my little joys with SRK - because I had done Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman with him by then, so at least there was that comfort level. It was a great big adventure.”

Dunki: Shah Rukh Khan reveals qualities he has that Rajkumar Hirani’s previous heroes Sanjay Dutt, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor don’t: “Un teeno ke dimples nahin hai; I have more hair than them”

Shah Rukh Khan, at one point, regularly gave interviews to the press and even answered their queries at events or premieres. The star has stopped doing so in the last few years. He hasn’t given an interview since his last film, Zero (2018). He was a part of the success parties of his recent blockbusters, Pathaan and Jawan. But he didn’t take any questions from the media. Hence, the media persons were in for a pleasant surprise when the PR team of Dunki asked them to send questions that they’d like to ask SRK, actress Taapsee Pannu and director Rajkumar Hirani. The trio recorded their replies to media questions and as expected, it has made for a great watch.

Dunki is Rajkumar Hirani’s sixth film. He has earlier worked with Sanjay Dutt in Munna Bhai MBBS (2003) and Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), with Aamir Khan in 3 Idiots (2009) and PK (2014) and with Ranbir Kapoor in Sanju (2018). In Dunki, he collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan for the first time. A journalist asked Hirani about the one quality that Shah Rukh Khan has and which Sanjay Dutt, Aamir Khan and Ranbir Kapoor don’t. SRK hijacked his answer, raising a lot of laughs.

Shah Rukh Khan began by quipping, “Only one quality has been asked. Aap 4-5 bol dijiye!” He then told the blockbuster director, “Main aapko prompt kar deta hoon: Good looks, amazing dancing skills and hair which is more than anybody else’s (laughs)! Yeh toh keh hi sakte ho sir ki baal sabse zyada the.”

Rajkumar laughed heartily and then said, “Firstly, it’s the charm.” SRK again interrupted him and reminded him about his dimples, “Un teeno ke dimples nahin hai.”

Now, it was Rajkumar Hirani’s turn to bring the house down. He stated, “Secondly, I used to sleep by 11:00 pm. Shah Rukh taught me that you can stay awake till 5 in the morning! Now I sleep at 6:00 am. Maze se jee raha hoon main!”

SRK controlled his laughter and revealed, “Yeh interview bhi subah 3:30-4:00 baje ho raha hai!”

Shah Rukh Khan opens up about playing older characters in Jawan and Dunki: “I am 58 now. Mujhe age-centric roles karne chahiye”; also jokes “Main itna young lagta hoon ki log mujhe older roles dena nahin chahte”

Shah Rukh Khan’s September 2023 film Jawan and the recent release Dunki are poles apart, in terms of scale, grandeur and commercial elements. However, in both films, Shah Rukh Khan plays both a younger character and also its older version. SRK, in a rare instance, answered some media queries as part of the promotions of Dunki. He was asked whether it was deliberate that he chose to play older characters in his recent films.

Shah Rukh Khan said, “No, it’s not a conscious effort. I am 58 now. Mujhe aisa lagta hai ki mujhe age-centric roles karne chahiye. If I get an opportunity in a film (then why not). The older character in Jawan is more in-your-face. I won’t call it a caricature but it’s an over-the-top old person. In Dunki, it’s quite real. In Dunki, it’s about a soldier ka vaada. So, it’s a journey of a character and that is the most intriguing quality of the film. It spans 25 years.”

Shah Rukh Khan continued, “I would say that I have been age-honest the first time in Dunki. I don’t know Hardy’s (his character in Dunki) exact age. He must be 60 or 65 years old. But it’s more close to my age. I think I have tried to do it as real as possible. Woh kitna kamyaab hua ya nahin hua, woh mujhe nahin pata. It’s not a conscious effort but I feel more comfortable playing my age. And when I am playing the younger version, I am de-aged. I am with Taapsee Pannu, who’s younger than me. So, character-wise, it falls into place ki hero ki wajah se young heroine ke saath kaam nahin kar raha hoon. It makes me comfortable.”

Finally, he raised laughs in his trademark style, “Having said that, main itna young lagta hoon ki log mujhe older roles dena nahin chahte! I’ll continue playing 27 or 28 (smiles). But in all seriousness, it is fun to play a character spanning more than two decades.”

Amitabh Bachchan gets emotional at Anand Pandit's bash; quotes his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan while sharing a heartfelt personal message

With many celebrities gracing the 60th birthday bash of Anand Pandit, it seems that it turned out to be one of the biggest showbiz party in recent times. Among them was also megastar Amitabh Bachchan who attended the same with son Abhishek Bachchan. The veteran star showed us a glimpse of his emotional side as he made a heartfelt speech for his close friend on this special occasion wherein he also quoted a line from his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a renowned Indian poet.

For the unversed, producer Anand Pandit recently hosted a birthday as he turned 60 and along with that he also celebrated the completion of two successful decades of his real estate company Lotus Developers. While Amitabh Bachchan was also the chief guest, he joined Pandit in cutting a 6-tier cake at the celebrations and also unveiled a biography and a coffee table book inspired by the producer's life, which they shared over the past two decades.

During the event, as the friends bonded, Pandit also showered praise on him, to which Mr. Bachchan humbly responded, "You have praised me so much but I don't think I am worthy of this admiration. As my father would say, 'I have no desire to be famous. That you know me is enough.' You said you were very inspired by the character of Vijay in Trishul but the credit for the resonance of that character should go to the writers, not me."

With obvious emotion, he dwelled upon the close bond that they shared over the past two decades and also praised Pandit for the qualities that turned him from an industry outsider into one of its biggest success stories. "Anand Bhai is someone who always brings with him a lot of optimism and joy. One may be facing any problem, but by his mere presence, he dissipates the gloom. He has a lot of humility and simplicity. He is a very friendly, very respectful person and he has lived his life with a lot of discipline. I believe Anand Bhai is a true heir and a worthy son to his father. It is because of the blessings of his parents that he is today known as Anand Pandit and the man behind Lotus Developers. My heartfelt congratulations to him on this special day."

Other guests at the well-attended bash included Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kartik Aryan, Jackie and Tiger Shroff, among others.

Trishala Dutt, on Wednesday, offered a glimpse into her evening as she shared an Instagram story featuring a candid moment with Ranbir Kapoor. The atmosphere was casually stylish, with Trishala donning a black top and Ranbir opting for a grey jumper and an ivy hat. Trishala's caption read, "When an 'animal' came to visit." The playful reference alludes to Ranbir's recent movie, Animal. Interestingly, he also portrayed the role of Sanjay Dutt in the latter's biopic Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has crossed the Rs. 500 crore mark at the box office in India. Globally, it has crossed the Rs. 800 crore mark. Amid the polarizing reactions to the movie, it continues to remain a success at the box office.

On the work front, Ranbir Kapoor will star in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. He will be joined by Sai Pallavi who will essay the role of Sita. Trade feels that Dunki can open in the range of Rs. 30 to 40 crores and can emerge as the third consecutive Rs. 500 crore grosser for Shah Rukh Khan: “If the content is good, it could be one of the BIGGEST, if not the biggest grosser of the year”

The biggest clash of the year will take place this week. While Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dunki releases on Thursday, December 21, Salaar, starring Prabhas, will arrive in cinemas on Friday, December 22.

Trade analyst Atul Mohan is confident that Dunki is set for a historic opening, “It can have an opening of Rs. 50 crores.” He explained, “The advance trend is good. There’s Shah Rukh Khan as the lead and moreover, Rajkumar Hirani is the director. After Pathaan and Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan is on a different level altogether. As for Rajkumar Hirani, the business of his films is always greater than his last flick. Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) collected more than Munna Bhai MBBS (2003). 3 Idiots (2009) did many times more than Lage Raho Munna Bhai. PK (2014) broke 3 Idiots’ record. Sanju (2018) also collected more than PK.”

The other experts felt Dunki’s opening will be below Rs. 40 crores but also added that for a film of this kind, it’s a positive sign. Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, opined, “It’ll open around Rs. 30-35 crores. We need to remember that it’s a non-holiday Thursday release. Hence, such an opening will be fantastic for Dunki.”

Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise in Jaipur explained, “Don’t compare Dunki’s opening to Pathaan and Jawan. It may be a slow starter. But if the content is good, it can be at par with the two films of Shah Rukh Khan released earlier this year”. He predicted, “Rs. 35 crores plus will be a very good opening day number for Dunki.”

Trade guru Komal Nahta agreed, “The advance booking is good, not outstanding. And that’s not surprising because it is not an action film like Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2 or Animal. Action films are the ones that get the biggest opening and the best advance booking. Hence, I am not surprised. People are saying ‘advance khaas nahin hai’ lekin khaas hone bhi nahin waali thi”. He continued, “My prediction is between Rs. 30 and 35 crores.”

Atul Mohan explains why Dunki will have an edge, “It is a film for a family audience. Animal became a huge hit but many families and ladies’ viewers stayed away. They haven’t gone to watch a film in a long time since Pathaan, Gadar 2 and Jawan were action flicks. After Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, there hasn’t been any family film” In his trademark style, he indulged in a play of words, “Bahut time se un ke dhang ki picture nahin aayi thi lekin ab Dunki aa gayi hai!”

Girish Johar, in agreement, opined, “This is a period when more of the family audience and womenfolk come out to celebrate. This is the time when multiplex films have done well. Hence, Aamir Khan’s movies have exceled in Christmas. The women have been left out when it comes to the recent blockbusters and hence, they might drive the ticket sales for Dunki.”

Komal Nahta also said, “I have liked the song ‘Lutt Putt Gaya’. 'Nikle The Kabhi Hum Ghar Se', written by Javed Akhtar, will top the charts very soon.”

500 crore possible for Dunki?

Shah Rukh Khan’s earlier two films entered the Rs. 500 crore club. Can Dunki also follow suit? Everyone unanimously felt that it’s possible since the SRK + Hirani combo is a solid one. Atul Mohan opined that “It (A business of Rs. 500 crores) can very easily happen.” Girish Johar also holds the same belief.

Raj Bansal said, “Dunki is not an action film, unlike Pathaan and Jawan. Hence, those films opened to record numbers. But I have high hopes from director Rajkumar Hirani. If the content is good, it can be at par with Pathaan or Jawan or even go beyond them.”

Komal Nahta went on to say, “I have a feeling that it could be one of the biggest, if not the biggest grosser of the year.”
